Dear Gem Prep Families,

We appreciate all the participation in our recent event “Walk in My Child’s Boots Dinner”. We wrapped up our second quarter strong and are in the swing of getting things started for our third quarter. Our students began new electives and are excited to conquer new academic and social-emotional skills. We hope this newsletter will provide information about upcoming events and opportunities for your student and family at Gem Prep: Nampa!

Do you know a neighbor, family member or friend who is going into kindergarten through grade 5 next year? On Wednesday, February 15th from 4:00-5:00 pm we are inviting all students and families to bring a friend with them to see what Gem Prep is all about!

What? Please invite your family, neighbors and friends to visit GPN with you!

When? Wednesday, February 15th from 4:00-5:00 pm

Where? Gem Prep: Nampa – When you arrive please have your student(s) walk their friends into their classroom to show off their favorite parts of their learning space. We will have a scavenger hunt for the students to complete in the classroom while the parents can share their experiences with their adult friends. At 4:40 we will convene in the cafeteria for an overview of the school and an opportunity to sign up for our lottery.

Why? We want your help in recruiting amazing new families and students to the Gem Prep community for the 2017-18 school year before our lottery closes on Thursday,February 16th!

Reminders have been sent home this week and picture packets will be handed out next week if they haven’t been sent home already.  You can also purchase photos online at mylifetouch.com using the following picture day ID: ID116476G0.

Our office is in need of spare clothes to use for students. If you have any extra pants, shorts, shirts or jackets that you are willing to donate to the Gem Prep: Nampa, we would greatly appreciate the donation. These items will remain in the Gem Prep: Nampa office for use by the Gem students in need of a change of clothes. Please bring any donations to Katie in the office.

We are looking for volunteers who are interested in coming in during our school recesses and during breakfast/lunch hour or helping out with office tasks.  The following are the times we would love to have you:

Breakfast 8:35AM-9:00AM

Morning Playground Time – 8:35AM-9:00AM

AM Recess 10:40AM-11:00AM

Lunch Recess 11:55AM-12:50PM

Lunch Room 12:10 PM-1:10PM

Additionally, if you are interested in joining the Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO), please send an email to Stacey Walker at [email protected]. The introductory meeting will be Thursday, February 16th from 3-4pm.

Our lottery application is up on our website, https://www.gemprep.org/nampa/, or click on the link below, until February 16, 2017. If you haven’t already, please click on the link and re-enroll your student. Below is the re-enrollment process, and if you have any questions about this process, please contact our School Operations Manager at 208.468.2847 or [email protected]. We will be glad to assist you as you register your students for the 2017-2018 school year.

Dates: January 4 through February 16, 2017

Lottery Date: February 22, 2017

Who Should Complete the Form?

The “Application for Lottery” (re-enrollment form) will be placed on the website on January 4. One online form must be submitted for each student who wishes to re-enroll and/or newly enroll. There will be a place for parents to indicate if the student is a returning student or whether the student is new, and also if the new student has a currently enrolled sibling.

Easy Process for Re-Enroll

1. Log onto the gemprep.org/nampa/ website between January 4 and February16 by midnight.

NOTE: This form will not be available until January 4, per lottery rules.

2. Complete one “Application for Lottery” form for each student you wish to re-enroll. (There are only a few questions to be completed and it should only take about five minutes to complete.)

3. After the lottery draw on February 22, you will receive an email from Brenda regarding your student(s)’ enrollment status and also asking you to update your PowerSchool data for each of your students.

1. Log onto the gemprep.org/nampa/ website between January 4 and February16 by midnight.

2. Complete one “Application for Lottery” form for each student you wish to enroll. You will have an opportunity to indicate that your new student is a sibling of a currently enrolled student, for priority status in the lottery.

3. At the end of February you will receive an email from Brenda, notifying you of the new student’s enrollment status and supplying a link that will allow you to submit necessary documents for enrollment, i.e. copy of birth certificate, immunization records and proof of residency. You will also supply contact information and other necessary information for enrollment through your PowerSchool portal.

Remember, if you wish to re-enroll your current student you MUST complete the online “Application for Lottery” form. If the application form is not completed, then your student may lose his/her seat in next year’s student body.

As of today, 84% of our students have re-enrolled. We look forward to seeing many more students complete enrollment in the coming weeks!

For the safety of all students, please follow the directions below for dropping off and pick up your student at Gem Prep: Nampa.  We appreciate your cooperation and remind you that our number one priority is the safety of our students.

·         Our campus opens at 8:35 a.m.

·         The traffic pattern through the parking lot is one way only

·         Kinder students may be dropped off at the main building doors or escorted to their classroom or cafeteria by a parent

·         1st through 5th grade students are to be dropped off at the playground entrance on the west side of the building unless we are having indoor recess then there will be a staff member outside informing parents to drop students off at the main doors.

·         Do not cut through the parking lot

·         Stay in the traffic lane.  Do not pull out, move around, and cut back into the traffic lane in front of other vehicles

·         Use caution as you pull out after picking up your student

·         Please follow the directions of Gem Prep personnel

·         Always pull as far forward as you can before stopping to load your student
