What is Extended School Year?
Extended School Year Services are special education or related services provided beyond the regular school year, generally during the summer. ESY is provided to those students who have an Individualized Education Plan or IEP, and will be severely impacted by an extended break in instruction.
The district can provide ESY services in a variety of ways, and the services provided are at no cost to the parents/guardians. ESY Services may include, but are certainly not limited to:
- Training for the parent before breaks in programming
- Home-based programs that may include parent training
- School-based programs
- Related services
Goals of ESY
The goal of ESY is to assist students with disabilities on IEP goals and objectives for: Emerging Skills, Maintenance Skills, and Self-Sufficiency Skills.
